The website of Nottinghamshire Police was compromised by Pro-Palestinian hackers:
Some choice words from the hacked site:
Hi UK police, where is the security *****?
The page also has what sounds like a MIDI version of The Exorcist theme playing in the background.
According to a number of server check websites, they’re running Apache/2.2.15 (CentOS). Could one of these vulnerabilities have allowed the hackers in?
The Police force in question have already alerted their 40k Twitter followers, taking down the hacked content – although they’re a bit vague on details:
There was nothing on the page which would have caused any form of infection, so if you did happen to see the hacked site you should be okay.
Notts Police are currently investigating what happened, and it’ll be interesting to see if the hack was due to human error or outdated software.
Law Enforcement is always going to be a valuable scalp to claim for anybody wanting to make a political statement, and the people behind this one certainly made an impact.
It remains to be seen how the Thin Blue Line will respond…
